Al borde del camino
lo encontramos
el mismo pantalón, la blusa blanca:
sobre su espalda
amapola de sangre.
Llaman de gracia al tiro
que enmudeció su boca,
ahogó su amor
y me dejó baldada.
El estallido
de aquel tiro de gracia
aún retumba
y aúlla en el aire, aúlla.
BLOOD SPILT
On the roadside
we found him
the same pants, the white shirt;
on his back
a blood poppy.
They call it coup de grace
the shot that muted his mouth
choked his love
and left me crippled.
The blast
of that grace shot
still echoes
and howls in the air, howls.
